Today I decided to deactivate me Twitter Facebook and Instagram accounts. I was tired at looking at everyone’s “over glorified” lives.
I was spending so much time on social media, especially Twitter. It wasn’t adding to my life. It made me feel insecure when my posts didn’t get a lot of likes, and everything was so superfluous. I was throwing away my time.
For me Social media has created an amazing medium to broadcast information, but it also has become a crutch we lean on to interact with others. It has created a space in which we can simply type and post and not have to see firsthand the repercussions of the things we have said and done.
It’s time to get my life on a more positive route. I actually read the newspaper today, the first in years (Ohh boy!). Life will hopefully so much better ! The element of surprise will return (No finding out about who’s doing what) . News? I don’t watch it, if it is important enough then I will find out about it outside of social media. I can live life without feeling like I have to compete, hopefully my brain will be less cluttered and I can live and enjoy other important things in life.
To some people, if you don’t have Facebook or Twitter, you don’t exist. I will probably end up not talking with a lot of people simply because I no longer have a social media account.
Don’t be frightened by this, though – I will quickly got over it because the people that forget me, I wasn’t very close to anyway. My true friends will still be there for me – I’ll still able to make friendships work. But be sure to realize there are people you’re going to stop talking to after hitting that deactivate button.
